As they say ‘summer bodies are made in the winter!’ As we approach the colder months, weight loss and diet talk starts to fill the air. For those looking to shake up their diet, have you ever tried a diet filled with curries?
Now, we don’t mean pigging out at your local Indian every night of the week; indulging in creamy chicken kormas and stodgy sag aloo. Instead, we mean trying out traditional Asian recipes – keeping all the flavour but taking out the fatty elements.
Numerous people have reported losing several stone in weight after eating curries two meals a day. In particular, Suki Burai, a mother of three who lost three stone from creating traditional Indian curries.
In fact, curry could actually be better for you than just losing weight. Resea have looked at the spices in curries such as turmeric, cumin, allspice, cardamon and ginger
Taking inspiration from this, we’ve designed a range of low fat curry sauces that are perfect for healthy eating.
Low Fat Green Thai Curry Sauce
Regarded as the hotter of the Thai Curry triplets, our Green Thai curry sauce can be enjoyed with some diced chicken.. A thin yet flavoursome sauce, this Family Secret special contains a long list of healthy ingredients including:
- Fresh green chillies
- Lemon grass
- Kefir lime leaves
- Cilantro roots
- Shrimp paste.
What makes this healthy curry sauce beneficial for those trying to lose weight is it’s lack of fatty, creamy ingredients. Instead, we use a small splash of coconut cream and water to give the sauce some consistency and flavour.
Low Calorie Moroccan Tagine Sauce
Originating from North Africa, our Moroccan Tagine sauce draws from traditional cooking methods in Africa, in particular the technique of slow-cooking savoury stems. Using a crockery pot called a Tagine, the Moroccans would mix together sliced meat, poultry or fish with seasonal vegetables and fruits to create a stew. Then, they add spices, nuts and dried fruit for extra flavour. In later years, the Moroccan Tagine recipe was named after the pot it is cooked in.
Our take on the classic Moroccan Tagine sauce is made using fresh vegetables and spices such as tomatoes, onions, aubergines and paprika – making it low in calories (just 48kcal per 100g).
Healthy Indonesian Rendang Curry Sauce
Our most popular sauces is our Family Secret’s Indonesian Rendang Sauce. In 2017, it picked up a Great Taste Award.
The Rendang dish was traditionally served at ceremonial occasions and to honour guests, but is most commonly served across Malaysia in the Malay community. We draw inspiration from classic Indonesian recipes, using traditional ingredients such as coconut milk, red chinese chillies, turmeric and milled lemongrass. While coconut milk is high in fats, coconut milk actually contains a ‘healthy kind of saturated fat’ that is not harmful to the body. This is what makes our Rendang sauce so healthy!
